==============================
I was diagnosed with Lupus in 2003. After years of frustration and subjection to ignorant comments and dismissive attitudes (within and without the medical community), I decided to take matters into my own hands. I began to think of a way I could change the mindset of those who don’t feel that Lupus is a “real” disease.
Finally, I came up with the idea to create the LEEP for Lupus Awareness Campaign™. The Trademark and Tagline is:
LUPUS EDUCATION ENCOURAGES PARTICIPATION--
"Get Pro-Active...LEEP for Lupus!™".
The frog is my Mascot and Green is the official color.
The central focus of my campaign is education with emphasis on advocacy, participation and encouragement for those already living with Lupus
I discovered over time, that the more I learned, the more empowered I felt. When my knowledge increased, my fear decreased. I became my OWN advocate and it felt great!
TheLEEPChatChannel™ is an extension of my "one woman crusade" and serves as a vehicle through which I can present my vision to the masses.
I believe education is key to understanding what Lupus is, how it affects the body and how to effectively treat it. Finding the answers to these dilemmas will dispel a great deal of negativity and lift the stigmas associated with it.
It is my hope that by integrating details of my own struggle, others will identify with the humanitarian aspect of my mission and be moved to act.
I would like to thank those of you who support me in this endeavor, and I look forward to sharing with you.
Sincerely,
Chandra Hightower
