Rising Medical Costs a Threat to Senior Care

According to a USA Today analysis, medical costs are the biggest reason why government benefits for seniors increased 24 percent above the inflation rate since 2000. From a public health care perspective, the outlook is precarious. In March, Medicare trustees issued a report saying Medicare’s Hospital Insurance Trust Fund will be empty by 2019. Advocacy groups like AARP are working to draw more attention to what many are calling a “healthcare crisis.”

AARP, Business Roundtable, Service Employees Union and the National Federation of Independent Business are campaigning to find solutions for affordable, quality health care and long-term financial security for Americans.
