Alopecia means baldness. Alopecia areata is where one’s hair follicles are attacked by his or her own body which causes a person’s hair to fall out. It starts with a small, smooth round patch and can affect the entire body, the entire scalp or parts of either. Alopecia areata runs in families and there is no cure but it can be treated.
