One of Dr. Lam's patient talks about his experience with Dr. Lam's reconstruction of his face following cancer surgery.
Skin cancer has become an alarming epidemic today. The incidence of melanoma has steadily increased in an exponential fashion over the past several decades. Fortunately, people are becoming more educated about preventative measures, such as topical sun protection (SPF) agents and general avoidance of prolonged sun exposure. Early detection and treatment have facilitated better survival rates and avoidance of the need for extensive, disfiguring surgical resection.
Dr. Lam has trained extensively in removal of skin cancer and reconstruction of the defect in the most aesthetically restorative method with a diverse array of "flap" techniques. At times, multi-stage procedures will provide the best option for effective camouflage of extensive defects or defects that reside in particular facial zones. But, oftentimes, a single surgical procedure is sufficient to restore the patient to a normal appearance. Dr. Lam is very sensitive about the ultimate aesthetic appearance and will not compromise in his goal to provide the best surgical solution for the patient.

I'd like to hear more about your skin cancer -- was it melanoma or another type?
