What is cosmetic surgery?

Added: August 7, 2008 | Time 01:07 | Views: 496

Once considered taboo, cosmetic surgery has become an increasingly popular choice for correcting physical abnormalities or enhancing one’s appearance. Today the field of cosmetic surgery offers individuals a broad range of options, from liposuction…in which excess fat is sucked out of the body with a tube and vacuum device…to a full-blown face lift. Nose reshaping, breast enhancement, ear reduction and hair removal are popular procedures, but cosmetic surgery does involve risk. Minimal risks include temporary or permanent numbness, infection and scarring, and uncommon risks include serious reactions to the anesthesia, such as abnormal heart rhythm, airway obstruction, blood clots…even death. Length of recovery from cosmetic surgery varies depending on the procedure performed, but most patients will require some assistance after surgery.
