Stem cell transplantation may lead to insulin independence in type 1 diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is not as common as type 2, but still affects millions of people, most of them young. Patients must regularly inject themselves with insulin to stay alive. But now researchers have tested a stem cell transplant procedure that appears to help free patients of the need for insulin or any other medications.
