Flu and Antibiotics

Added: November 20, 2007 | Time 00:44 | Views: 185,158

Steve Shelov MD FFAP Parenting Expert, explains that antibiotics do not work when you have the flu because it is a virus and not a bacterial infection. He discusses how the flu can be treated by prevention-one being the flu shot and can be remedied by rest and fluids when the shot is ineffective. For more information please visit www.DrMDK.com

I get flu shots every year - wouldn't go without it.

I think any fluid is preferable to no fluids, but the preference would be water first. The rationale behind drinking fluids is that we tend to decrease eating and drinking when we don't feel well, which puts our body on the road to dehydration. Sugary fluids MAY be dehydrating to some.

I've heard that you should "not" drink juices when you have the flu... something about the sugars. Anyone heard differently?
