Is Manic Depression hereditary? Manic Depression, or Bipolar Disorder, does run in families. There is a 10% chance if one parent is Bipolar, and 90% of people diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder have it in their families. Symptoms: mood swings, depressed or great moods that can't be explained...see psychologist.
