Question for Dr. Mona:
Viral laryngitis....Is it dangerous? How long till it goes away? And is it common? For about a week now I have had a sore throat, runny nose, etc common flu symptoms. Then I lost my voice a couple days ago, not fully I just sound like a squeaky beast at the moment lol. Yesterday, I went to see my doctor who told me I have viral laryngitis- he said it's not contagious but it’s basically a swollen gland or something to do with my voice box so I have been advised to not talk a lot and to take ibuprofen etc. She said there is no antibiotic because it's a virus and my immune system needs to fight it this away. She said the longest it would take to go away is 10 days but if it doesn’t I will have to be put on steroids....I'm really worried about this as the side effects causes hair loss and stuff like that. Any advice on what I can do to get rid of it quicker? My doctor also told me I have conjunctivitis in addition to viral laryngitis. I feel FINE in myself though I do cough a bit and my voice keeps going in and out. I'm taking strepsils, drinking loads of fluids, having steamy baths & barely talking! Any additional advice, suggestions, etc you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
