I felt compelled to write a comment about this video, as I feel somewhat of an expert on this topic. I spent the majority of my adult life using and abusing drugs and alcohol (I'm 37), and got sober a few years ago. I am also a registered nurse. I must disagree with Mr. Jamison in this video. I'm not sure what his agenda is here, I'm assuming he wants to make money selling videos. I can tell you this - a 12 step program, properly applied to your life, can and will relieve you of the obsession to drink and drug. I agree that the success rate is low, but what this video doesn't tell you is that the 25% rate only applies to newcomers, and people who may not be ready to stop. In my experience, 100% of the people who work a 12 step program, and work it thoroughly, stay sober. I'm one of them. I agree that your body experiences many physical changes due to the abuse of drugs and alcohol, and indeed your brain is not in balance. I also agree that nutrition plays a big part in recovery. However, if you, like myself, are a true alcoholic and drug addict, your problems began long before you ever put any controlled substance into your body. I, and many like myself, was born this way. I spent my entire life looking for something to fill the hole in my soul, and found that being intoxicated did that for me. When the constant daily grind of obtaining and using drugs in all of their forms became too much for me, I found the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous. That was my solution. I didn't have a problem with drugs and alcohol so much as I had a problem dealing with life on life's terms. AA showed me how to live free of drugs and alcohol, and I didn't have to concern myself with brain chemistry and the like. I simply worked the 12 step program, and my life changed. The brain chemistry returns to normal after a period of time of abstinence - this is what your body is designed to do. I understand that recovery is a personal journey, and what worked for me may not be the solution for you. I present these statistics for you, however: AA has been around for 70+ years, and has helped approximately 70 million alcoholics in over 150 countries. If it works for that many people, most likely it can help you.
