Changes to medicare and access to care for cancer patients

The Medicare Modernization Act of 2003 changed the way physicians are reimbursed for chemotherapy drugs. Reimbursement payments have been reduced to more closely reflect the actual cost physicians pay for the drugs. There was concern among some patient advocate groups that this change would negatively impact access to care for Medicare patients. But a recent study finds cancer patients appear to be receiving comparable care.
