Each time you stand, walk, run, or chew your food, you use muscles and bones. There are more than 600 muscles and 200 bones in our bodies and they make up our muscular-skeletal system. It also includes joints, tendons, and ligaments. Joints are where bones meet…tendons attach muscles to bones…and ligaments connect bones to each other. The entire system protects our internal organs and maintains and supports our body’s structure. It also produces blood cells, and enables us to move. Many medical conditions can affect this system, such as arthritis, or inflammation of the joints and osteoporosis, which means thinning of the bones. If you are having difficulty moving or have joint stiffness, this system may be compromised. Learn more about the muscular-skeletal system or share your story or experience with icyou.
