Intelligence quotients, or IQs, aim to measure intelligence. Statistically IQs have a normal distribution, as shown by the plot of this graph, thus the majority of the population fall on either side of the average score, 100, and 68 percent of people have IQs between 85 and 115. Much less than 1 percent are potential "geniuses," with IQs above 150 and 2 percent are "subnormal" with scores below 70.
